Dear Dr. Charles Coppel,

Congratulations for the successful conference at your university. I was glad to be able to join such a great conference with two big panels on Indonesia. Unfortunately I was not able to meet so many Indonesianists there and missed the workshop on violence. Through this message, I would like to ask your favour to circulate the attached file informing the forthcoming international symposium/workshop in Makassar (at the Hasanuddin University) held by Journal ANTROPOLOGI INDONESIA, published by the Dept. of Anthropology, Univ. of Indonesia, Depok in collaboration with several institutions abroad (CSEAS - Kyoto Univ., Anthrop. RSPAS - ANU, Nat. Museum of Ethnology - Osaka and Hasanuddin Univ. Makassar).

Even though the deadline for abstract submission was over, I would be glad if some Indonesianists from Australia would still consider joining us in the symposium. There will be around 80 papers presented by the local and international Indonesianists (not as many as the ASAA papers though), and a worskhop will follow to discuss significant issues to be dealt with in future research, facilitative actions, and recommendations for the policy makers in Indonesia. Hence, any ideas and discoveries by the Indonesianists in Australia are most welcome to assist us in dealing with the recent problems in our country. Your help in circulating this news to the members of the Indonesian Council is really appreciated.

Please send any inquiries to the Organizing Committee at UI: or to the OC at Hasanuddin University:

Thank you for your kindly collaboration and my best wishes for the Indonesia Council's programme and activities.

Welcome to Makassar,
Yours sincerely,

Dr. M.A. Yunita T. Winarto
